Bird Baths

Most small birds need to drink
at least twice a day and enjoy
the occasional bath to keep
their plumage in condition.
An ornamental birdbath can be
an attractive feature - but for
the sake of the birds health
make sure it is cleaned
regularly and doesn't get filled
up with dead leaves,
which will rot and
pollute the water.
Our Tip: Sitting a birdbath
in the centre of a flowerbed will encourage birds to linger, especially if you dead head
to keep flowers coming at the end of season and leave seed heads to provide food in winter.

Bird Box
Nest boxes can attract many species of birds. These days, you can even fit
them with cameras to see the
birds at close quarters.
Ideally position the box in
a quiet spot, facing north or east
and tilted downward to allow rain
to run off. Our Tip: If you
have space plant native trees
such as silver birches to
attract insects and provide
winter seeds.

Feeders
It makes sense to get to know the feeding habits of birds. Blue tits for example, love hanging feeders containing nuts and seeds such as sunflower hearts. house sparrows, collared doves and finches like small seeds. Be aware that birds can be just as greedy as us - so only put out enough food to last a couple of days. Our Tip: It's good idea to buy squirrel proof feeders - you might enjoy watching their antics as they try to get to the food!

Robins
As the days start to get slightly longer, the sound of birdsong slowly returns as the males get busy marking out their territories in preparation for nesting and the start of the mating season. Robins, especially, are a joy to have in the garden and will choose your nest box to site their nest in. Our Tip: Robins mainly eat insects and worms, try our mealworms robins love them - and will even follow you around as you dig
